Today, August 21, we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, honoring the life and sacrifice of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. On this day in 1983, Ninoy was assassinated upon returning to the Philippines—a moment that awakened the nation and ignited the movement that restored our democracy.
Ninoy was a journalist, senator, and staunch critic of dictatorship who firmly believed that “the Filipino is worth dying for.” His courage continues to remind us to cherish our freedom, protect our democracy, and never forget the sacrifices made for our beloved country.
